A New Song – A Redefining

Sometimes I wonder if my prayer or praise sounds like I pressed play – the same message on repeat. I believe God loves hearing from us no matter what, whether it is the same thing day after day or something brand new. He loves us and delights in our time and focus. It is all about our heart.

Today the words “a new song” leapt off the page, grabbing my attention. Sitting here quietly reading and absorbing the words in my beautiful Bible, I felt something fresh. The warm glow of the big orange sun rising over my shoulder highlighted the words of Psalm 33:3, stating, “Sing a new song to him; play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.”

I became inspired to sit quietly, reflect on those words, and ponder what new song my heart has for my Lord today.

God, in his faithfulness, shocked me with a word for which I didn’t really know what to do. I wrestled with it. He reversed it on me, telling me that HE has a new song for ME. He’s doing something new. He’s using me in a new way.

Coming out of a very long season of loss, grief, trauma, and striving, He is not letting anything be wasted. He is not done with me! Instead, this new season will be a time of redefining my path – a new journey. How sweet He is. He met me right here with a new song. I feel His sincere, deep, strong love over me, reassuring me that I am valuable, important, and He sees me.

I am reminded of a photo from my childhood where I was holding my Daddy’s hand as we walked through the cold, dark caves in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I didn’t know what was ahead, but I remember feeling calm and safe with my strong, fearless Daddy holding my hand and guiding me into the dark, cold cave. My earthly Daddy failed me in so many ways, but today, sitting here with a new song, I feel my heavenly Father holding my hand, guiding me confidently into a new season.

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the Lord. Psalms 40:3

I sat there with a vision of a path that looked like the letter Y. My path has been straight for a long time, but I’m approaching the spot where there are two ways. Neither is wrong, but one is “the way,” and I can see it. I know it. I believe and trust it. I feel Him calling me to go this way, and I am. I will. I don’t know what’s ahead, but He is faithful. He is holding my hand, providing a way, lighting the steps, and I trust He will open the doors He wants me to walk through while closing the ones that are not meant for me. A new song feels right, right now.
