Chosen for Battle: The Words We Use

Fighting satan is exhausting. As I think and study the battle against the devil, I’m reminded that if I were not a threat to him, he would not be pestering me.

I am winning because he sees me as a threat. That is some powerful revelation, right there! But, it is exhausting.

The good news is that joy comes in the morning, and the Lord refills our spirit with the exact dose of what we need daily. He knows and He provides.

Every single day – we awaken to a fresh, new start.

Ephesians 6:17 tells us, “Take the helmet of salvation and of the sword of the Spirit – which is the word of God.”

There are two very important words there from which Paul chose intentionally: “sword” and “word”

The Greek work for sword that Paul chose was “machaira” which was not just any sword, but one Roman soldiers used for up close and personal, hand-to-hand combat. It was a personal weapon used for offensive tactics.

Jesus even modeled this for us when Satan tempted Him. He was not emotional. He was sure, steady, and He fought Satan with His very intentional words. He said, time after time, “It is written….”

The Greek word chosen for “word” was “rhema”. It means spoken, activated, and precise. In the moments when you feel your thoughts, raging, focused on fear, doubt, confusion, guilt, shame, etc. – that’s precisely the time you get to pull scripture out and use specific targeted words, said out loud, and aimed at the lies you repeatedly recite in your mind.

These words, as they are written, are used in the highly personal up close battles we face. Pull them out day after day.

Don’t give up. You are doing something good for God when Satan chooses you. Clearly, you are close to a breakthrough – a new story! You get to annoy and agitate the enemy by using God’s word.

When you do this repeatedly, you win.

God wins.
